Palmer, deputy chief constable, will take over from Chief Constable Jim Chu, who announced in January that he was retiring after 36 years with the VPD.
“Adam Palmer has had a storied 28-year career with the VPD,” said Robertson, chair of the Vancouver police board, while introducing Palmer at a morning press conference.
